Understanding Me is an entirely reproducible, ready-to-use collection of activity sheets designed to enhance the social-emotional learning of middle-and high-school students while helping them develop a number of important life skills.
The social-emotional learning of your students is enhanced by the development and acknowledgement of identifiable life skills. Schools frequently overlook these critical skills because they are non-academic. Yet all students, whether gifted, talented, average, or slow, require them. Research demonstrates that when deficiencies in the development of life skills exist, students are “at risk”. On the other hand, as life skills are acquired, performance goes up and self-esteem is enhanced. When students feel competent to deal with life’s many challenges, they feel good about themselves, and when they feel good about themselves they are capable of higher performance and achievement in all areas.
Understanding Me includes over 85 pages of delightfully illustrated, immediately usable activities that engage teens in focusing on their own social-emotional development. These engaging experience sheets encourage young people to learn important interpersonal skills and to consider such things as their dreams, interests and aspirations, what it takes to develop friendships, the value of goals, the need to be responsible and the importance of justice.
