Help Children Find the Virtue in Virtues
This collection of thirteen stories (with forty black/white illustrations) brings the virtues to life through lively, entertaining adventure tales designed to be read aloud to young listeners. Each tale has been built around four of the 52 virtues that have been identified by The Virtues Project™ (www.virtuesproject.com), a global grass roots initiative that inspires the practice of virtues in everyday life. Discussion topics for the adult reader and the young audience follow each story and include age appropriate definitions of the virtues. Questions are also provided to engage the child in conversation about the concepts in the story. These interactive tools foster a more profound understanding of the virtues. Relating the experiences of the characters in the book to their own personal experiences has them fully engaged in the story and creates a rich environment for learning—while young and old enjoy the thrill of a well-told yarn.
The stories are for children 5-7 years and are full of adventure and wonder. The characters are heroic, fun, and both girl and boy (and an animal or two). Each story is approximately 1200 words long with beautiful black and white illustrations to further engage the child.
The virtues covered are:
assertiveness, caring, cleanliness, commitment, compassion, confidence, consideration, cooperation, courage, courtesy, creativity, detachment, determination, diligence, enthusiasm, excellence, flexibility, forgiveness, friendliness, generosity, gentleness, helpfulness, honesty, honor, humility, idealism, integrity, joyfulness, justice, kindness, love, loyalty, moderation, modesty, orderliness, patience, peacefulness, perseverance, purposefulness, reliability, respect, responsibility, self-discipline, service, tact, thankfulness, tolerance, trust, trustworthiness, truthfulness, understanding, unity.
